Yes. Absolutely and at no extra cost.
As for damage, we can say with total confidence that we are able to repair any damage that the cutting edge of your knife blade might have.
Broken tips. Chunks missing. Nicks and dents...
We even re serrate worn out bread knives.
Over the decades we've seen it all and we repair at no extra cost to you.
How about that?
We do not however weld fractures that originate from the spine of the knife or bolster or repair handles.
Every order is backed by our 360° care plan and Tomato test quality control as standard.
Please visit our KNIFE REPAIR page for more info on this service.
No we do not repair handles or rivets in handles.
If you have bespoke handmade or forged knives we'd recommend you get in touch with a UK based artisan knife maker or carpenter who may be able to help.
If you have standard brand knives such as Wushof or Henkels, the cost of replacing handles will exceed the cost of buying a new knife.
Good question.
Kitchen knives are sharpened by hand on our precision aluminium oxide sharpening wheels that are water-cooled for optimum performance and temper retention .
This is the same process that the manufacturer who originally made your knife will have used.
Your knife will be returned with a freshly sharpened edge that will be between 2 and 15 mm wide depending on blade taper and thickness behind the cutting edge and always with the correct angle for your knife and its intended application. Angles may thicken slightly at the heel of the blade if we feel your knife would benefit from a thicker blade at the heel for added strength.
If your knife presents with a thicker than usual edge we’ll sharpen with wider / thinner bevels to compensate for increased angles. More here.
We also administer wider hollow ground bevels for excessively thick bladed knives, cleavers and bushcraft / hunting knives as standard. More here.
We can also sharpen painted or coated blades. More here.
We re-profile bolsters which is essential for blade profile alignment – as standard and at no extra cost. More here.
Please note however that we do not perform full taper re grinds.
We sharpen regular double bevel knives as well as single bevel blades.
See HERE for more info.
We polish and remove scratches as best we can to our procedures depending on steel composition and original finish.More here.
Damaged edges and tips are repaired at no extra cost. How we do this is covered here and here.
Every knife is unique so we will adjust our sharpening to suit the knife.
Please read our T&C’s which cover every individual aspect of how we approach each sharpening.
Depending on the finish and steel of the blade we conclude our service on polishing mop buffers up to 5000 grit, smoothing the sharpening edge and create a brushed satin to mirrored finish on approximately 10-30mm of the blade from the cutting edge.
We finally pass each knife on diamond steels and put them to bed.
All re sharpening has a -2mm tolerance included from original bevels or profiles and final 2-3mm cutting bevels have a fine grain, consistent with 800-1000 grit stones.
Every knife is hand checked and will have to pass our Tomato cutting test before being allowed to be shipped back to you.
We offer a truly bespoke service.
Every single order is recorded, photographed and archived to ensure quality compliance and is backed by our 360° CARE PLAN which is a collection of our core sharpening principles and standards.
You'll have 24 hrs from receipt of knives to test your knives yourself on a tomato to confirm sharpness.
This confirms our sharpness guarantee.
Your knife edge will be incredibly sharp whilst removing the absolute minimum of steel needed to create the perfect, clean and discreet edge. All within 2mm tolerances of original contours if no damage correction is needed.
If you have any special or specific requirements we’re also happy to oblige ( your request must be a service that we can provide ) - you must leave a comment at checkout for us to do this for you.

EVRi / Hermes expire 28 days from you placing your order so do please ensure you send your knives in to us speedily within these time frames else you'll have to purchase new return labels which cost £3.99.
Unfortunately the quantity of our packages are fixed. You can either choose to reduce your amounts to fit the desired package, add an item from a friend, neighbour or family member to make up your desired quantity or add multiple packages together to fulfil larger amounts.
Have 8 knives to sharpen? Not a problem. Simply add a 5 and a 3 knife package to your order to make 8 knives in total.
Yes, but you’ll have to ship them back to us all together using the return label provided.
The knife packages cannot be split and returned at different times as there is only one return label issued per order.
Unfortunately not. Each order has its own return labels for the 3 way journey. Splitting your order would require multiples of extra P&P charges and is not possible. All knives need to be shipped to us in one go.

We sharpen absolutely any knife that is made of steel. Every brand without exception.
From Robert Welch, Ikea and Sabatier to Global, Wusthof, Henckels and everything in between.
Damascus steel, hand made knives, serrated bread knives, hunting knives, pen knives, fluted edge, single bevel, carbon steel, cleavers, paper/card/household scissors and much more are all accommodated.
You can find out more about what we sharpen and what we cannot sharpen on our What we sharpen page.
Yes absolutely.
We are the only re sharpening company in the UK that offer a full bread knife re serration on request at no extra cost to you at all.
We do not however, re serrate micro serrations. A micro serration is a serration that is narrower than 5mm between tooth points.
We advise you to click on the below links for more info on this service.
You can read more about this on our Knife repair page and here at our Knife resource centre.
Yes we do.
We sharpen household scissors used for paper and card.
The cost of sharpening a pair of scissors is the same as one knife.
However, we do not sharpen pinking scissors, tailor scissors, hair dressing scissors or pet grooming scissors.
Occasionally we get asked this. The answer is yes. However most knives are symmetrical in profile and so can be used by left and right handed users equally without hinderance.
The only knife that is left hand specific is a single bevel or one sided chisel angle blade. We can also sharpen these too.
Not a problem. When you place your order, simply add a santoku knife to your cart and we’ll ship you the knife/knives in the initial empty knife box.
They're yours to keep and excellent value.

Customers can leave comments at Checkout to provide specific instructions if they’d like their knives sharpened in ways that fall outside of our T&C’s or 360 care plan.
Please note that if you choose to pay via Apple Pay there is no option to leave a comment so please email us quoting your order number and request immediately after ordering.
Please note that any previous correspondence or query via email or phone cannot be addressed unless requests regarding your order are left at checkout.
This is the only way to guarantee requests are attached to an order.
We can only fulfil requests if it is an instruction that is possible to administer. The limits of our service are laid out in our T&C’s.
Unfortunately not. To sharpen a knife correctly means achieving the correct angle at the cutting edge. This requires the correct amount of steel removal. Once this is achieved, then steel removal stops. We will only remove the absolute minimum required to achieve a perfect edge.
To only 'lightly' sharpen will mean that the correct amount of steel has not been removed from the cutting edge and your knives will not be sharpened correctly and will underperform. This wastes your money and also your knife edge.We recommend that you hold off sending us your knives until they are truly blunt.
If you have received no response from us immediately after placing your order please check your Spam.

The very nature of the processes performed in a sharpening and repair service reduces blade material.
It’s a reductive process.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, repairing damaged vehicles for example, is an additive process as dents are filled and resprayed.
Because removed blade material cannot be replaced we work to exacting procedures regarding repairs which can be found on our ‘Knife Repair’ page and specific techniques regarding sharpening can be found on our ‘How it Works’ page.
Many re sharpening companies state knives will be returned ‘like new’.
This is not technically possible and an important fact to acknowledge.
Our service saves you money buying new, whilst returning beautifully repaired and restored knives with minimal blade material removed, re contoured, repaired, re serrated and polished .
There are many before and after examples across our website and socials.
We respect your knives and always perform our service to achieve best possible outcomes applying our century’s worth of knowledge and experience underpinned by our 360 care plan for each sharpen.
All sharpening and repairs are within an agreed and accepted -2mm tolerance of original contours and profiles.
Simple. Affordable. Fast. Hassle free. UK- wide domestic knife sharpening service direct to your door. With Blade & Butler's heritage your knives are in the best of hands.
