Tip Repairs

We receive many damaged blade tips each day and they way we go about restoring the point is both methodical and sympathetic every time.

We take into consideration multiple factors when repairing broken ends.

Firstly, the knife's application.Whether it be a flexible filleting knife or a santoku knife for example.

Secondly,  the knife's construction.

Spine, blade and taper thickness all contribute to how a new tip is fashioned so that it works with the existing blade.

Last of all, aesthetics.

The new tip has to look and feel right. It should be a balance of what the original looked like with the aesthetic of the newly created point and its relationship with the profile and contour.

We appreciate this is subjective and so customers agree to our T&C's on this issue and are asked to trust our professional judgement on this.

Please note, some knives we receive in show signs of having been previously re tipped to a rounded finish in order to reduce injury. Any knife that we receive in with a rounded tip will NOT be re-tipped unless a comment is left at checkout asking us to do so.

If you have specific re tipping requirements please leave a comment at Checkout and we'll be happy to oblige.

The below image shows how we go about re pointing different knife models. This is by no means exhaustive but gives an illustration of what can be achieved.

Material removed is high lighted in red. All re tipped contours aspire to have a tolerance of +/- 2mm from the original contour - ( if the original contour is known ) however in some cases due to the damage caused it is not possible to stay within these tolerances.

The below video shows a Global santoku knife before and after re pointing. Here we removed material from below and above the damaged area to create a sympathetic and more usable profile.

We're also happy to take direction from customers if they have specific re pointing requests.

Comments can be left at checkout when placing your order.
