Flint & Flame ( or is it Rheinland Cutlery? ) — Blade & Butler

Flint & Flame is a British-market knife brand that became particularly visible through demonstrations at food shows and events and oddly are not available in stores or on Amazon. The company states that its X50CrMoV15 steel is sourced from Germany, with the blades and accessories subsequently finished in China. The steel origin is hard to prove. They also have their knives rebranded in the US as Rheinland Cutlery.

From a sharpening perspective, these are unnecessarily clunky knives: heavy, with very thick spines and comparatively poor tapering from spine to cutting edge. The steel itself is acceptable rather than poor, but in our opinion the overall geometry lets the knife down.

For the price, we think there are considerably better-performing knives available. We frequently recommend professional thinning of Flint & Flame knives, which can make them significantly easier to sharpen, maintain and use.
