Dalstrong Knives – Good All-Rounders, But What Are You Buying? — Blade & Butler

Dalstrong has become an enormously visible kitchen knife brand, offering a huge variety of designs, steels, finishes and ranges.

In our opinion, Dalstrong is best understood primarily as a private-label knife brand, with manufacturing outsourced to multiple manufacturers, particularly in China, rather than as a traditional knife manufacturer producing its knives within one historic factory.

That distinction doesn't automatically make the knives bad.

In fact, many Dalstrong knives are perfectly decent.

We've sharpened them and generally find them to be competent all-round kitchen knives. They take a good edge, the steel used across many of the ranges performs adequately, and there is an enormous choice of shapes and styles.

The difficulty with such a broad product range is consistency. Different ranges can use different steels, construction methods and blade geometries, so it's difficult to make one blanket assessment covering every Dalstrong knife.

Our Verdict

Blade & Butler rating: 6.5/10

Decent, capable all-round knives. In our view, you're buying a heavily marketed private-label brand rather than the heritage of a traditional knife manufacturer, but that doesn't prevent many Dalstrong knives from being perfectly good kitchen tools.
